How long should I keep ice on my injury?

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) does not provide a universally applicable guideline for using ice after every type of injury, physical therapists follow best practices based on clinical evidence. The use of ice, or cryotherapy, is primarily recommended for an acute soft-tissue injury to manage pain and reduce excess inflammation.

The general guidance it to apply ice for 15–20 minutes at a time, always with the provided barrier to protect skin. When using ice continuously...allow the skin area to fully rewarm for 30–60 minutes before repeating to prevent irritation or tissue damage. Never use the ActiveWrap ice pack without the nylon slip cover.

Disclaimer:The above information is provided as a general guide and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult with your physician regarding any questions you may have about a medical condition or before using this product. Use only as directed.

What size ice pack compliments my current activewrap system?

  • Small (4.5" x 6.5"): for wrist & foot wraps
  • Medium (6" x 9"): ankle, elbow & neck wraps
  • Large (7" X 10"): knee & shoulder wraps
  • Large Square (10" X 10"): hip & back wraps
  • X-Large (13.5" x 10"): XXL back & hip wraps

This is a general and "most recommended" guide. However, since all our ice packs are modular and compatible you are not limited to these configurations. As example, for smaller body sizes or youth, you can use Small or Medium packs inside a Knee Wrap.

Are ActiveWrap Ice packs FDA registered and non-toxic?

Yes. ActiveWrap standard ice packs utilize a 100% food grade gel that is non-toxic. All ActiveWrap products are FDA registered since 1997.

Other ice packs contain chemicals such as Urea and Ammonium Nitrate (used in fertilizers). Instant ice packs are a popular choice for reducing swelling and pain for low budget organizations or when freezers are not available. They work by undergoing a chemical reaction that creates a cooling effect. The upside is they are cheap to use...the downside is they are one time use, require a wrap and are chemical-based with ingredients mentioned above.

ActiveWrap only makes reusable professional grade ice packs that are completely safe for the entire family.....yes even the dog.

Ice Machine or ActiveWrap Ice Wrap After Surgery?

Why choose an ActiveWrap Ice Wrap solution with Long Duration Ice instead of an ice machine after surgery?

Motorized cold therapy units/Ice therapy machines are not covered by insurance. So why pay more for the same therapy an ActiveWrap can provide? Consider these ActiveWrap benefits below:

Better Value: Unlike costly ice machines that are often rented or used only for a few weeks, ActiveWrap® is a one-time purchase at a fraction of the cost of a motorized cold therapy unit and you’ll own and use for years.

Mobility & Comfort: Stay active while recovering—our ice wraps let you move around without being tethered to a machine, with hoses and electrical cords. Movement helps reduce stiffness and promote circulation.

Ease of Use: No messy refills, hoses, plugs, pads or complicated setup. Just freeze ActiveWrap ice packs, stick and secure them into your support and start the relief.

Proven Patient Choice: Many patients are told to buy an ice machine by their healthcare provider, but end up ditching it for a more convenient solution such as ActiveWrap® for lasting therapy and relief.

What is Cryotherapy and the benefits of using a cold pack on injury?

Cryotherapy is the practice of using cold therapy to aid in recovery. Ice is used immediately after injury to prevent swelling and pain. It reduces pain and inflammation, limits scar tissue and decreases muscle contraction. Cold therapy reduces blood flow to the area which reduces bruising. When the involved area is reduced in temperature to around 60-61 degrees Fahrenheit nerve conduction is reduced resulting in a pain relief affect.

CAN I use my FSA/HSA FUNDS TO PURCHASE ActiveWrap?

Yes! You can use your HSA/FSA dollars to purchase eligible products on activewrap.com using the Sika Health payment method. All eligible products will say HSA/FSA eligible under the Product Description. When you add HSA/FSA eligible products to your cart, you can select the “SIKA| Pay with HSA/FSA” payment method and follow the instructions. No receipts, no reimbursements, no hassle.

2. What happens if I have both HSA/FSA eligible items and ineligible items in my cart?

If you have a mixed basket of eligible and ineligible products, Sika Health makes this very easy. When you select the “Sika | Pay with HSA/FSA” payment method at checkout, your cart will automatically be split into an eligible and ineligible subtotal. You can then add the appropriate payment method for each subtotal. Sika Health will handle the rest!

3. What if I don't have enough money in my HSA/FSA account to cover my purchase amount?

Not to worry! Sika Health can check your available HSA/FSA balance, charge that amount, and allow you to provide a backup credit or debit card to handle the rest. Enter your card details like normal and follow the prompts from Sika Health!

4. What if I don’t have an HSA/FSA debit card? Can I still use Sika Health?

Yes! If you would like to redeem your HSA/FSA funds for a purchase on our website and you don’t have an HSA/FSA card, you can choose Sika and pay with a normal credit or debit card. As long as one of the items in your cart is eligible, you will receive an email from Sika Health detailing the items, the card used, and a compliant itemized receipt attached. In this email will be everything you need to redeem your purchase for HSA/FSA dollars, including the proper receipt to submit to your HSA/FSA administrator. Download the itemized receipt and upload it to your HSA/FSA administrator to get reimbursed for your qualifying items.

5. My payment didn’t go through with Sika Health, why is that?

There are a few potential reasons why this may happen. It’s possible your HSA/FSA card has not yet been activated, or that you are attempting to purchase ineligible products with an HSA/FSA card. If you believe it is something other than that, please reach out to support@sikahealth.com.

6. What is an HSA or FSA?

A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a pre-tax account that lets you set aside money for qualified healthcare expenses. Typically, you can sign up for an HSA when you sign up for a High Deductible Health Plan. These accounts are individually owned so the funds roll over each year and you can take them if you leave your job.

A Flexible Spending Arrangement (FSA) is an employer-offered benefit plan that lets you set aside money for qualified healthcare expenses. You can sign up for an FSA if your employer offers this option. It’s important to remember that FSA funds do not roll over at the end of the year (unless your employer allows it) and they immediately are returned to your employer if you leave your job. Spending with your pre-tax HSA/FSA funds helps you to save 30% to 50% on qualified health expenses. And we’re here to help you maximize your savings.

How long do my ActiveWrap Ice Packs last?

Typically underevery dayclinical use2-3 yearsbefore we recommend replacing the hot and cold therapy packs. If the pack starts to get a bit crunchy or air inside that is a good indicator to replace.

What is the difference with your ice packs compared to basic drugstore ice packs?

ActiveWrap®ice packs are uniquely manufactured to prevent "gel migration." This means that the gel material in our hot and cold therapy packs is elastic or rubbery by nature and can not be pushed or flattened from one side to the other. If you imagine a tube of toothpaste being pushed from the bottom up, this is how traditional gel packs have reacted under pressure. ActiveWrap®ice packs deliver a uniform blanketing treatment when used for both heat and or ice therapy. No migration...no bare spots...a big difference.

How do I clean my ActiveWrap?

Fresh water rinse and hang dry will keep your wrap clean for years to come. In the hospital setting, simple purple wipes work great. Always wipe condensation off of pack before returning to freezer. Do not use bleach or place wraps in dryer.

I use ice cubes and an elastic wrap in the gym…why should we use ActiveWrap?

Why did we switch from horse drawn carriages to automobiles? Modern materials and efficiency. Ice is often hard and sharp resulting in discomfort when compressed against the skin. This leads to an individual having to reduce the pressure of wrapping the joint to tolerate a typical treatment. The ActiveWrap® allows for a snug–fit combining maximum compression and direct cold coverage to any painful area. ActiveWrap®is easy to apply for any age athlete and will save your facility money in the long term with countless re-usable applications. Ice bags tear and cost money along with the elastic wraps or plastic that is used to secure the ice to the body. Gym facilities will further reduce the chance of dripping water on the floor reducing liability risks within the gym by using ActiveWrap® hot and cold therapy.
